User Question

Tongkat ali and broccoli

Question

I had read that when taking tongkat ali, one should not eat broccoli. Since I’m on a completely organic/paleo diet and am limited to steamed green vegetables and sometimes certain greens are unavailable during certain times of the year and since organic broccoli is available year round in almost every store and can be eaten raw, I decided to take a chance and see what effect it would have.  I was doing fine with the tongkat ali and seeing positive results but the minute that broccoli hit my digestive system, it completely cancelled out the effectiveness of the tongkat ali.  I ate the broccoli on one of my off days but it still had a negative impact.  I’ve stopped eating broccoli and started back on my tongkat ali dosage but am still not seeing any positive results.  Will this improve with time or does the broccoli have the effect of permanently cancelling out the effectiveness of the tongkat ali?

Hi Kevin,

It has been said by some users that broccoli can cancel the effects of tongkat ali, though this seems to vary from user to user as some of my customers consume broccoli and tongkat ali without negating the effect.

However, it is possible that it could have a greater effect in some users such as yourself. Paleo diet in itself might have a good effect on your testosterone. However, seems that tongkat ali and broccoli doesn't go well together in your case. Then, you will have to choose between doing paleo diet or taking tongkat ali, whichever produces more effects for you.

I would say that if you wait for about 2 weeks, that should be more than enough time to get rid of any trace of broccoli in your system. After that you can start tongkat ali at the normal dosage. Take into account that tongkat ali takes roughly 2 weeks to start having an effect.

Lastly, please check that there is nothing else in your diet of habits that might work agains you. There are other vegetables that have been reported to not work well with tongkat ali, some users point at cauliflower and garlic. Also, be aware of any medication you are currently taking as some might have undesired side effects such as low libido. Also, don't forget to exercise regularly as this aids in increasing testosteone and you will have overall a more positive effect than using tongkat ali alone.

Best regards,
Fran
